The Coolbinia Bombers celebrated NAIDOC Week on 17 July 2022. In keeping with tradition at the club, players and families across all teams gathered together for this important event in our club calendar to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Â
The centre circle was painted once again ready for the clubwide event, with players and volunteers from various age groups lending helping hands.
The event was attended by Noongar Elder, Robyn Collard, who performed a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony.
In a particularly special moment, a sign erected in front of the clubrooms showcasing the artwork of one of the club’s own members, Emily Collard, was introduced. The sign signals the club’s ongoing commitment to recognising and celebrating the Whadjuk Noongar Traditional Owners, their culture and the contribution they make to our club and community.
The club is grateful for the support of all those involved in the event. In particular, our club captains, Nic Mersen, Wriggly Worms Face Painting, Discus Print & Signage and Ally Gordon for her assistance in raising the Aboriginal flag.Â
And don’t forget… Yokayi!
