Sophie’s Story

For National Volunteer Week the club shared Sophie’s Story, a four-part series about one of our own. Sophie has been a Bomber since Auskick, and she now spends her Sundays helping lead and encourage our Starkick footballers.

In Part 2, Giving Back, Sophie helps prepare for the Purple Hands Fremantle Dockers Starkick All Abilities Gala Day, one of the biggest days on the Starkick calendar.

Part 3 is about life outside of footy — how volunteering fits around school, home and friends, and what it has given back to her.

In the final part, Sophie talks about her hopes for the future and encourages others to give volunteering a go.

“There’s a volunteer in all of us,” Sophie says. “Find your place, and when you do, you’ll help make our communities stronger.”

Starkick gave Sophie friendships, confidence and connection. Sophie gave the Bombers something every club needs more of — a young person who makes everyone around her feel welcome and part of things. We are very lucky to have her.

Thanks to Sophie and all the De Masi family, to Starkick, and to the Metro Central Regional Development Council for commissioning the series. Thanks also to the North Perth Community Bank Branch, Alkira Care Services and Kinetic IT, who have been wonderful investors in our Starkick program, and to every volunteer at the Bombers. Your time, care and energy genuinely make a difference.

If you have a footballer who would like to join Starkick, or know a family who might, there is more information at bombersjfc.asn.au/our-teams/starkick/.
